When I look at the love life of Ram and Sita in the Indian epic, The Ramayana, my thoughts go thus...
The most important rule of love between a man and a woman very much depends on a happy deep love making. A man becomes a strong man and a woman gets enriched in a deep love making - that is a blessing of God. A happy loving making happens only when the souls are deeply accepted by each other and go beyond the restrictions of any relationships. I think a happy love making is just a will and the blessing of God.
In the life of Ram and Sita, I presume that love making life was very important. And it might have truly happened and blossomed their life, wherever they were and whatever comforts they have shared never mattered, as there were no complaints on facilities of living.
Food was never an issue, neither dress nor a bed. There were neither cinemas nor social outings. No bar or ball. No clubs and no family gatherings. Then what attracted them to remain together and remain so complaint free? Is it just the wedding knot tied by Ram?
Their happiness continued till they got separated in the forest after Sita was abducted by Ravana to Lanka? Was that a mistake of Sita? In love, there are no questions and no justifications? No reasoning or no blaming? Love was the bond and answer to all logical questions? Never did Ram ask nor did Sita give explanations on why it happened?
A question comes up, who was Ravana? Was he not rich? He was handsome, he was strong, loved by every woman and loved by all men? He was a billionaire. Top in the then top ten. Yet, nothing all those of Ravana attracted Sita? She was all alone and had only one thought- to unite with Ram again? This is the strength of love between Sita and Ram. So I think.
Her physical body was always available to Ravana, but never her heart nor her soul. So, Ravana could never take her to his soul. He tried with all his riches. But failed. Not even a million dollar gift for a night.
What made Sita so self-restraint? Is it just the fear from the wedding knot tied by Ram? Or, the sheer feeling of the depth of her love life with Ram? However, later in their life, they got separated due to job constraints and restrictions. Is it not?
Ram was preoccupied as the prime minister of his country. So, he had to forgo his strong love life and time with Sita. Sita also had to contain her deep passion for Ram and took the responsibility of bringing up their children. This is very common in our society. Is it not?
Sita never thought of remarrying and enjoying a new life because her husband had no time to spare for her. The love that they shared for 14 years of living together was so strong and its aroma was never lost from their hearts. So, shall be every true life in love.
Therefore, as her memories with Ram were so fresh like the fragrance of a heap of fresh flowers, her love became a pain and then matured into penning down of her life experiences with Ram. She never wrote anything about her life expectations with Ram. In today’s world many would have attempted to write that.
Therefore, the book Ramayana was written for generations to read, understand, evaluate and emulate for millions of life thereafter.
Personally, I think that Ramayana is a book everyone needs to read, or that many has read it but hardly a few have understood the importance of, the essence of, and the bondage of a good life in love. Thank you for reading.
