My guru opened the doors of the spiritual world to me. On his gentle prodding, I dived into the spiritual texts as a seeker of truth and came out with pearls of wisdom. I was not biased and didn’t allow pre-conceived notions to colour my understanding of the texts. My learning process kept prompting me to imbibe knowledge from all religions. Finally, I ended in meditation and yoga, techniques that liberate one from most bondages.
I realized eventually that I was being transformed in a transcending experience. I moved away from friends, from groups, from my likes and dislikes.
I was headed somewhere.
A rebirth, it was. I came out from the bondages of man. The revelation -- that an individual loses his or her independence and gets conditioned for a life of slavery to fulfill the targets and aspirations of others around him like teachers, parents, spouses, siblings and bosses, thereby ignoring his or her own heartbeats — transformed my life and outlook.
It dawned on me that what was important was to love oneself and work for one’s own happiness. My motto from then on was: Think free and think unbiased.
I also realized that it was tough to live in this world with the principle of unconditional love, sacrifice and service. I learned that to remain liberated for an unbiased happiness, I need to follow the cycle of “take to give” and “give to take”.
